What is Paraplatin used for?


Paraplatin an anticancer medication and is used for treatment of some types of lung cancer and ovarian cancer. This medicine will be given by infusion (drip) into a vein over 15-60 minutes. Your doctor will work out the correct dose of Paraplatin for you and how often it must be given. The recommended dose will depend on your medical condition, your size and how well your kidneys are working. You will have regular blood tests after your dose of Paraplatin. You may also have checks for nerve damage and hearing loss. There is likely to be about 4 weeks between each dose of Paraplatin.

Some of the common side effects of Paraplatin may include tiredness, shortness of breath, anemia, nausea, vomiting, infection, diarrhea, hair loss, stomach pain and cramps. Some of the serious side effects of this medication include decreased platelet count, decreased neutrophil count, bleeding, liver and kidney problems, problems with nervous system, allergic reactions and electrolyte imbalance. • Blood thinning medicines e.g. warfarin
• Phenytoin and fosphenytoin (used to treat various types of convulsions and seizures)
• Other medicines which decrease the activity of the immune system (e.g. ciclosporin, tacrolimus, sirolimus)

Paraplatin Storage and Safety Information


Paraplatin injection prior to dilution is stable for 24 months when stored between 15°C and 25°C and protected from light. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
