What is Anusol HC used for?


Anusol HC is a steroidal ointment, or anal suppository used to reduce inflammation caused by hemorrhoids or other inflammatory conditions of the rectum or anus. It can also be used as part of a treatment plan to treat ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and other inflammatory conditions of the lower intestines and rectal area. Anusol HC can come in a rectal cream, ointment, or suppository form.

Most medications will come with side effects. Before deciding if Anusol HC is right for you, take a closer look at what you might expect.

Here are some of the most common side effects that come with taking Anusol HC:

• Mild rectal pain or burning;

• Acne;

• Changes in menstrual periods;

• Increased sweating;

• Increased facial or body hair growth

• Feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;

Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as steroidal medication can increase your glucose levels in your blood and urine. Your diabetes medications may need to be adjusted while on Anusol HC.

Seek emergency help or call Poison Control at 1-800-463-5060 immediately if you suspect an overdose. An overdose is not expected to produce any life-threatening symptoms, however, it’s important to note that the long-term use of high steroids can lead to symptoms such as: thin skin, easy bruising, changes in the shape or location of body fat storage, increased acne or facial hair, menstrual problems, impotence, or disinterest in sex.
