What Is Xiidra Used For?


The medication Xiidra is an eye drop used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye. Dry eye occurs when your eyes are not making enough tears or your tears are not normal. This medication works by blocking the interaction between two types of proteins that can cause inflammation in the dry eye disease. It is important to use Xiidra eye drops every day. Some patients might experience improvement in as early as 2 weeks. The safety and efficacy of this medication are not known in children under 17 years of age. Patients who wear monthly silicone hydrogel contact lenses have reported improvements in a contact lens symptom questionnaire after 8 weeks of treatment with Xiidra.

What Are The Possible Side Effects Of Xiidra?


Most common side effects of Xiidra include eye irritation, eye pain, and eye reaction when drops are applied to the eyes. Other side effects include unpleasant taste in mouth, blurred vision, itchy eyes, eye redness, increase in tears, headache, and sensitivity to light. Immediately seek medical help in case you experience allergic reactions including wheezing, difficulty breathing, and a swollen tongue. These are not all the possible side effects of Xiidra. Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Xiidra?


Remove contact lens before administering Xiidra, and wait for 15 minutes before reinserting.
