What is Vibramycin used for?


Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is a prescription antibiotic medication that is used for the treatment of a wide variety of infections caused by bacteria. Doxycycline belongs to the class of medications known as tetracyclines. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Vibramycin will only treat bacterial infections. It does not work for viral infections such as the common cold and flu.

It is used to treat pimples (acne), to treat or prevent bacterial infections, prevent malaria, treat swelling of the tissue around the teeth (periodontitis), for scaling and root planing and to treat rosacea. Under precautions: Vibramycin is best absorbed on an empty stomach. It is best to avoid taking this drug at the same time as milk, dairy, or other products with calcium. Do not take bismuth (Pepto-Bismol®), calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, multivitamins with minerals, colestipol, cholestyramine, didanosine, or antacids within 2 hours of this drug.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Vibramycin?


The common side effects may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, flushing, loss of appetite, nausea, tooth discolouration, vomiting and upset stomach. Talk to your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects such as:

• Blurred or double vision;

• Painful or difficult y swallowing;

• Persistent or severe headache;

• Signs of kidney problems;

• Sunburn;

• Vision changes

Are there any Precautions or Drug Interactions for Vibramycin?


You should not take Vibramycin if you are allergic to Doxycycline or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Vibramycin should not be used during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby. This medication passes into breast milk but it is not likely to harm a nursing infant. There may be an interaction between Vibramycin and other medications such as aripiprazole, birth control pills, calcium supplements, carbamazepine, colestipol methotrexate, quinapril, warfarin, etc.

Vibramycin Safety and Storage Information


Vibramycin should be stored at room temperature away from light and moisture away from children and pets. This medication should not be stored in the bathroom.
