What is Colcrys?

This prescription medication is used to prevent or treat gout flares. It may also be used to treat Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF). Gout is caused by excess uric acid in the blood, which forms crystals in the joints. This medication works by reducing the inflammation and swelling caused by these crystals. It may also be used to reduce swelling and inflammation of the sac that covers the heart, a condition called pericarditis.

The brand Colcrys is currently unavailable. The generic Colchicine 0.5 mg is produced in the United Kingdom and Turkey. It is also known as Kolsin. The generic Colchicine 0.6 comes from Canada by different manufacturers.
