What is Factive Used for?

Factive (Gemifloxacin Mesylate) is a prescription medicine used to treat certain bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (the lungs), such as pneumonia (community-acquired pneumonia) and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis. The active ingredient in the Factive tablet is Gemifloxacin Mesylate. Gemifloxacin Mesylate belongs to a class of drugs called Fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It works by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial growth. As a result of this mechanism of action, Gemifloxacin mesylate stops the growth of the bacteria. You should not use this medicine for viral or fungal infections as it may not work.
