What is Inlyta used for?


Inlyta is used for the treatment of adult patients with metastatic (the spread of cancer to the other parts of the body) kidney cancer (Renal Cell Carcinoma or RCC) who have had other treatments. This medication works by specifically targeting the activity of certain enzymes called tyrosine kinases that play a major role in transmission of chemical signals required for important cellular processes. It prevents the growth of blood vessels from surrounding tissue to a solid tumor and also prevents the growth of cancer cells. Take Inlyta exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Usual strating dose is 5 mg taken by mouth twice a day with or without food. Maximum dose is 10 mg twice daily. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Inlyta?


Some of the common side effects of Inlyta include fatigue, constipation, weight gain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, soreness of mouth, tongue or throat, abdominal pain, upset stomach, tiredness, hoarseness of voice, decreased appetite and weight, joint pain, pain in limbs, headache, taste disturbance, presence of protein in urine, cough, breathlessness, rash, redness, itching or peeling of skin, dry skin, hair loss, redness of skin, bleeding problems, dizziness, muscle pain, dehydration, hemorrhoids, ringing in ears, increase in lipase, blood clots in lungs and deep veins, temporary stroke episodes, painful tongue, kidney failure, heart problems. Some serious side effects of this medication include high blood pressure, decreased thyroid function, increased bleeding problems, blood clots in blood vessels or lungs, tear in intestinal wall. These are not all the possible side effects of Inlyta. In case of any unexpected effect, consult your healthcare professional immediately.

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Inlyta?


Women should not get pregnant and should not plan to get pregnant during treatment with Inlyta. Men and women should use effective birth control during treatment with Inlyta. Do not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit as they may change the amount of Inlyta in your body.

• Problems of thyroid gland
• Have had a recent problem with blood clots in blood vessels including stroke, heart attack, embolism or thrombosis
• Have bleeding problems

• Have neurological problems
• Have heart problems
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. This medication may affect male and female fertility
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is not known Inlyta passes into your breast milk. You and your doctor should decide if you will take Inlyta or breast-feed. You should not do both.
• Have a rare hereditary problem of lactose intolerance
Inlyta is not recommended for use in children since it has not been studied in children under 18 years of age.

Drug interactions


It is important to tell your healthcare professional about all other medicines that you have taken recently including any kind of supplements and non-prescription drugs. Inlyta can interact with medications such as:

• Dexamethasone (a steroid)
• Medicine for asthma, tuberculosis (TB), seizures (epilepsy), bacterial infections (antibiotics), fungal infections (antifungals), depression, or HIV (AIDS)
• Herbal medicines (such as St. John’s wort)
• Antacids, such as rabeprazole, which should be avoided 2 hours before and 2 hours after taking Inlyta
