Mezavant (Mesalamine) is a prescription medicine used to treat ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and other types of inflammatory bowel disease. It is also used to maintain remission (mucosal healing) in patients with ulcerative colitis. The active ingredient in Mezavant is Mesalamine. Mesalamine belongs to the group of medications called 5-Aminosalicylic Acid Derivatives. Mesalamine belongs to a class of drugs known as aminosalicylates. It works by blocking the production of certain natural chemicals that may cause pain and swelling in the colon.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Mezavant?


If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:

• Diarrhea;
• Headache;
• Muscle pain;

Mezavant comes as a capsule and it should be taken with a cup of water, usually 3 times daily or according to your prescription label. Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
