What is Onsior Used for?

Onsior (Robenacoxib) is a prescription anti-inflammatory veterinary medicine used in dogs to treat pain and inflammation associated with chronic osteoarthritis (a long-term disease-causing pain and inflammation in the joints) and soft tissue surgery. The active ingredient in the Onsior tablet is Robenacoxib. Robenacoxib belongs to the group of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). It works by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase 2 (COX 2). This enzyme is involved in producing substances called prostaglandins, which are involved in pain and inflammation. By blocking the production of prostaglandins, Robenacoxib (the active substance in Onsior) reduces the pain and inflammation caused by musculoskeletal disorders, surgery or osteoarthritis.

Do not use in dogs that have hypersensitivity to Robenacoxib or known intolerance to NSAIDs. Do not administer Onsior tablets or injections in conjunction with any other NSAID or corticosteroid for your dog. Onsior tablet is not for use in humans. Keep this and all medications out of reach of children. Consult a physician in case of accidental ingestion by humans. For oral use in dogs only. Wash hands and exposed skin immediately after use of the veterinary medicinal product. Suppose the tablets are accidentally swallowed by a person, in particular by small children, or self-injection occurs with the solution for injection. In that case, the advice of a doctor should be sought immediately. It would help if you observed your dog for signs of potential drug toxicity.

To be sure that the Onsior tablet is safe for your pet, kindly tell your veterinary doctor if your dog ever had or have signs of the following:

• Kidney disease;

• Stomach ulceration

Do not use Onsior in pregnant and lactating animals because the safety of Robenacoxib has not been established during pregnancy and lactation in cats and dogs used for breeding. Ask your veterinary doctor about the risk associated with Onsior. Tell your veterinarian about all the medications you use for your dog(s), including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements and other pain medication to prevent drug interactions, which might be fatal to your dog. This drug interaction may make the drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' action in your dog. There may be a drug interaction between Onsior and other drugs such as:
• Diuretics or angiotensin-converting enzymes inhibitors such as Lisinopril;
• Glucocorticoids such as cortisone, dexamethasone;
