What is Samsca Used for?

Samsca (Tolvaptan) is a prescription medication used to treat low salt levels (sodium) in the blood of people with conditions such as heart failure and certain hormone imbalances. Samsca helps raise salt levels in the blood by removing extra body water as urine. The active ingredient in Samsca is Tolvaptan. Tolvaptan belongs to the class of drugs called Vasopressin receptor antagonists. It works by selectively blocking Vasopressin V2-receptors that causes an increase in urine water excretion, which makes your body remove excess water from your body. By this mechanism of action, Samsca helps to increase to normal salt levels in the blood slowly.
