Silvadene (Silver Sulfadiazine) is a prescription medicine used to treat and prevent wound infections in patients with severe burns. Silvadene belongs to a class of medications called sulfa drugs (antibiotics). Silver Sulfadiazine works by stopping the growth of bacteria that may infect an open wound. It helps to decrease the risk of the bacteria spreading to the surrounding skin or to the blood, where it can cause a serious infection.
