What is Trivastal Used for?

Trivastal (Piribedil) is a prescription medicine used to relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and improve the level of cognition, memory, and focus in older people. Trivastal can be used as adjuvant therapy in treating intermittent claudication in chronic obliterating arteriopathies of the lower limbs. The active ingredient in the Trivastal tablet is Piribedil. Piribedil belongs to the class of medication called a dopaminergic agonist. Dopamine is a chemical messenger in the brain that is important for movement control. It works by increasing dopamine levels, a chemical messenger in the brain that causes symptoms of Parkinson's disease, thereby relieving the symptoms.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Trivastal?

Before taking Piribedil, you should inform your doctor if you have hypertension or other heart diseases. However, Trivastal should not be used in patients with heart failure or serious heart diseases. Trivastal comes as a tablet to be swallowed with a cup of water at the end of meals. You should use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any questions concerning your treatment or dosage, we always encourage you to have an open conversation with your doctor. Trivastal may make you fall asleep during daily activities without awareness or warning signs. You must not drive a vehicle or perform an activity that requires your full alertness to prevent the risk of serious accidents or death (for example, the use of machinery).

You should limit your alcoholic beverage while using the Piribedil tablet for your Parkinson's or other condition. Alcohol consumption causes excessive drowsiness, so do not take alcohol while using a Trivastal tablet. Consult your doctor if there is no significant improvement in your symptoms despite being compliant with medication.

You should not take Trivastal and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Heart diseases such as cardiovascular shock, acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure;
• Kidney disease;
• Lactose or sugar intolerance;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection)

Tell your doctor if you become pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or breastfeed a child. Trivastal is mainly for older adults with a meager chance of getting pregnant. Trivastal is not recommended for use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. For example, there may be a drug interaction between Trivastal and other drugs, such as:
• Antipsychotic drugs used in treating psychosis, nausea, and vomitings such as chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, fluphenazine, and haloperidol;
Aripiprazole;
• Bupropion;
• Metoclopramide;
• Pimozide;
• Quetiapine;
• Risperidone;
• Tetrabenazine
