What is Zaditen used for?

Zaditen (Ketotifen) is an antihistamine and non-bronchodilator anti-asthmatic drug used to treat symptoms of allergies, such as itchy eyes caused by allergy to dust, pollen, animals, and other allergens. It can also be used as an add-on medication for the treatment of chronic mild atopic asthma in children over the age of 3. Because it is a prophylactic agent, it should be used on a continuous basis and is not suitable in the prevention or treatment of acute asthma attacks.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Zaditen?

The common side effects of Zaditen include burning or weight gain, abdominal pain, increased appetite, drowsiness, swelling of the eyelids, painful urination, dizziness, or dry mouth. The serious side effects may include:

• Respiratory infection
• Hyperactivity
• Irritability
• Nervousness
• Disturbed sleep
• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
• Seizures

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Zaditen?

You should not take Zaditen if you are allergic to Ketotifen or if you have any other allergies. This drug makes you dizzy. You should not drink alcohol while on this medication, as it can increase the effects. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you. It is not known how this medication might affect an unborn or nursing infant. It should not be taken if you are pregnant, thinking about becoming pregnant, or nursing without a doctor’s advice. There may be an interaction between Ketotifen and other medications such as oral diabetes medications, sleep pills, antianxiety medications, other antihistamines, etc. This medication should not be given to any child under the age of 3.

Zaditen Storage and Safety Information

Zaditen is stored at room temperature and below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). It should be stored away from heat, moisture and light. Zaditen should be kept away from children and pets.

If an overdose is suspected, the possible signs can include: coma, confusion, convulsions, hyperexcitability, hypotension, sedation, and tachycardia. Seek emergency help or call Poison Control at 1-800-463-5060 immediately if you suspect an overdose.
