What is Acular LS Used for?

Acular LS (Ketorolac) is a prescription topical medication used to relieve eye pain, burning, stinging, tearing, sensitivity to light, and the feeling of something being in the eye after corrective laser eye surgery. It also effectively treats allergic conjunctivitis (inflammation of the clear covering of the front of the eye due to allergies). The active ingredient in Acular LS is Ketorolac. Ketorolac belongs to a class of medication called ophthalmic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). It works by decreasing inflammation, swelling, and pain. Reducing pain helps you recover more comfortably and return to normal daily activities.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Acular LS?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Blurred vision;
• Dry eyes;
• Eye irritation;
• Eye pain;
• Increased ocular pressure;
• Transient ocular burning/stinging

Stop using Acular LS and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Bronchospasm and exacerbation of asthma in people with asthma;
• Severe eye pain and continuous tearing/lacrimation;
• Severe burning, stinging, or itching of your eyes;
• Swollen or puffy eyelids;
• Trouble speaking;
• Worsening eyesight and increased sensitivity to light

This is not a complete list of the adverse effects of Acular LS. Kindly contact your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or worsen.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Acular LS?

Before using ketorolac, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, aspirin, or other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib) or any other allergies. Acular LS is an eye drop, and it is recommended to use 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 4 times a day for up to 4 days. Follow your prescription label carefully. Do not use the oral form of this product for more than 5 days to prevent the risk of developing intestinal ulcers. Contact lenses must be removed before using the eye drops and can be put back in 30 minutes afterward. If you also use other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between using this medication and the other drops. To help prevent infections, do not touch the applicator tip to your eye or any other surface. Wash your hands before using the medication.

You should not take Acular LS and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Asthma or other respiratory tract diseases;
• Heart diseases;
• High blood pressure;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection);
• Stomach or intestinal disorder or bleeding

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeeding a baby. NSAIDs such as Acular LS may harm an unborn baby and cause problems with normal delivery. It is not recommended for use in pregnancy from 20 weeks until delivery. If your doctor decides you need to use this medication between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, you should use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. You should not use this medication in your third trimester. Acular LS passes into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding and are using ketorolac eye drops, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breastfeeding or alternative feeding practices for your child.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Acular LS and other drugs, such as:
• Other similar eye drops;
• Steroid-containing eye drops
