What is Auvelity Used for?


Auvelity (Bupropion Hydrochloride/Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide) is a prescription medication used to treat adults with major depressive disorder. Major Depressive Disorder is a form of depression that causes a persistently low mood and a loss of interest in the activities that you used to enjoy. The active ingredients in Auvelity are Bupropion Hydrochloride and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide. Auvelity belongs to the class of drugs called Dopamine/Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (NMDA Antagonists). The exact mechanism of action of Auvelity in the treatment of MDD is unclear. However, these medications work together to restore the brain's balance of dopamine and norepinephrine. It is unknown if Auvelity is safe and effective for children.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Auvelity?


Before you start using Auvelity medicine, you should inform your doctor if you are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), recently stopped taking MAOI in the last 14 days, or are being treated with the antibiotic linezolid or intravenous methylene blue. It is advisable not to take MAOI (such as selegiline) until you have stopped taking Auvelity for at least 14 days. Auvelity is a table, and it should be taken orally. Swallow tablets whole; do not crush, divide, or chew. One tablet once daily in the morning for three days, then increase to the maximum recommended dosage of one tablet twice daily, separated by at least 8 hours. Do not take more than 2 Auvelity tablets in 24 hours. Follow your doctor's prescription label carefully. Do not increase your dosage without your doctor's approval. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Your condition may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition.

You should not take Auvelity and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Allergic to dextromethorphan, bupropion, or any other ingredients in Auvelity;
• Chronic alcohol abuse;
• Eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia;
• Glaucoma or other eye problems;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;

Bupropion passes into breast milk. You should not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine and for 5 days after the final dose.
