What is Curanail Used for?

Curanail (Amorolfine) is a prescription topical antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections affecting up to 2 nails and the upper half or sides of the nail. Fungal nail infection will likely result in discolored (white, yellow, or brown), thick, or brittle nails. The active substance in Curanail is Amorolfine. Amorolfine belongs to a group of medicines known as antifungals. Amorolfine kills a wide variety of fungi that can cause nail infections by soaking in through the nail to kill the fungus responsible for the infection. As a result, this topical antifungal destroys fungi and prevents the further spread of fungal nail infections.

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:

Stop using Curanail and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Changes in the color of your nail;
• Pus from the treated nail or toes;
• Worsening of symptoms;

The above list is not a complete list of the adverse effects of Curanail. Kindly contact your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or worsen.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Curanail?

Curanail is used to treat a mild finger infection (fungal infection involving 1-2 nails). If you have a moderate or severe infection in the broader area or more than 1-2 nails, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist to discuss other treatment options. Curanail has been proven effective in treating mild fungal nail infections in 85% of fingernail infections and 76% of toenail infections. Curanail is to be applied to the affected nails only once a week until the infection has cleared and healthy nails have grown back. It may take up to 6 months for fingernails and 9 to 12 months for toenails. Follow your prescription label carefully, and do not stop at any point, even if a healthy nail has grown back. Do not use the same nail file for infected and healthy nails, as this could also spread the infection.

You should not take Curanail and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Infected finger infection;
• HIV/AIDs or immunocompromised state;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection);
• Open wound around the treated area.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or nursing a child. Do not use Curanail if you are pregnant, might become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Curanail medication and other similar topical antifungal medications. Do not use other similar medicines without discussing them with your doctor.
