Feldene Information

Piroxicam (Brand Name: Feldene) is used treat pain or inflammation caused by osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Feldene is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by reducing substances in the body that cause inflammation.

Some common side effects of Piroxicam may include:

• Abnormal liver function test results;

• Urination problems;

• Upset stomach;

• Heartburn;

• Loss of appetite;

• Nausea;

• Vomiting;

• Gas, diarrhea, or constipation;

• Itching;

• Rash; or

• Ringing in the ears

You should not take Piroxicam if you are allergic to it or if you have ever had asthma attacks, or a severe reaction after taking aspirin or any NSAID. Piroxicam can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke when taken in high doses or use it long-term. It can also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history, and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. Avoid alcohol while on Piroxicam, as it can increase your risk of stomach bleeding. Do not take aspirin or other medicines similar to Piroxicam. Do not use this medication if you are nursing or pregnant.
