What Dosages and Forms of Lipfendra Are Available?

The brand Lipfendra is available in 20 mg tablet strengths.

What is Lipfendra Used for?

Lipfendra (Enlicitide) is a prescription medication used in addition to diet and exercise to reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), or "bad" cholesterol, in adults with hypercholesterolemia, including those with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH). Lipfendra is the first oral PCSK9 inhibitor approved for this use; PCSK9 inhibitors were previously available only as injectable therapies. The active ingredient in Lipfendra is Enlicitide, a novel macrocyclic peptide that belongs to a class of drugs called PCSK9 inhibitors. It works by binding to proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) and blocking its interaction with LDL receptors on liver cells, increasing the number of receptors available to clear LDL-C from the bloodstream and lowering LDL-C levels.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Lipfendra?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Diarrhea;
• Dizziness.

Stop using Lipfendra and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, such as:
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, hives, or difficulty breathing.

This is not a complete list of Lipfendra's adverse effects. Kindly contact your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above side effects persist or worsen.

Are there any precautions or drug interactions for Lipfendra?

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Lipfendra or have other problems when using Lipfendra. Continue using this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes. Lipfendra is available as an oral tablet. Take it once daily in the morning on an empty stomach with water, black coffee, or plain tea only, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else, as food can reduce how well the medication is absorbed. Swallow the tablet whole; do not split, crush, or chew it. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible, at least 30 minutes before your next food or drink, but do not take two doses on the same day.

You should not use Lipfendra and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• A known hypersensitivity to Lipfendra or any of its ingredients.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Based on how Lipfendra works to lower cholesterol, it may cause fetal harm, so your doctor will likely discontinue Lipfendra once pregnancy is recognized unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, as it is not known whether Lipfendra passes into breast milk. Do not use Lipfendra in children without talking to your doctor, as the safety and effectiveness of Lipfendra in patients under 18 years of age have not been established. Keep all appointments with your doctor for blood work while taking Lipfendra to monitor your cholesterol levels.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. You can generally take Lipfendra with other cholesterol-lowering medications, such as statins; however, always confirm timing and use with your doctor or pharmacist.

Lipfendra Storage and Safety Information

Store and dispense Lipfendra in its original bottle, keep it tightly closed to protect it from moisture, and do not remove the desiccant packet.
