What is Mavyret used for?


Mavyret is used in adults and adolescents under 12 years if age and older to treat chronic (long-lasting) Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is caused by an infection with hepatitis virus (HCV). There are two medicinal ingredients in Mavyret: glecaprevir and pibrentasvir. These medicines work together to stop hepatitis C virus from multiplying and to remove the virus from the blood over time. Mavyret can cure HCV infection in most patients. Cure means HCV remains cleared from your blood 3 months after you stop taking the treatment. Talk with your doctor about ways to avoid getting infected again with HCV. Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew, break or crush the tablets. The usual dose is 3 Mavyret tablets once daily with food. Mavyret is taken for either 8, 12 or 16 weeks. Your doctor will tell you exactly how long you need to take Mavyret.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Mavyret?


Some of the common side effects of Mavyret may include tiredness, headache and nausea. These are not all the possible side effects of Mavyret. Before starting treatment with Mavyret, your doctor will do blood tests to check for hepatitis B virus infection. If you have ever had hepatitis B virus infection, the hepatitis B virus could become active again during or after treatment of hepatitis C virus with Mavyret. Hepatitis B virus becoming active again (called reactivation) may cause serious liver problems including liver failure and death. Your healthcare provider will monitor you if you are at risk for hepatitis B virus reactivation during treatment and after you stop taking Mavyret. These are not all the possible side effects of Mavyret. In case of any unexpected effect, consult your healthcare professional immediately.

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Mavyret?


Do not take Mavyret if you:

• Are allergic to glecaprevir or pibrentasvir or any ingredients in the medication
• Have severe liver problems
• Are taking atazanavir, atorvastatin, dabigatran, ethinyl estradiol-containing medicines such as tablets or vaginal rings used to prevent pregnancy, rifampin, simvastatin.

Before using the medication, inform your doctor if you:

• Have liver problems other than Hepatitis C infection
• Are taking other drugs for viral infections
• Have a current or previous hepatitis B infection
• Had a liver or kidney transplant
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
