Maxitrol Eye Information

Maxitrol Eye (neomycin, polymyxin B, and dexamethasone ophthalmic) is used treat bacterial infections in the eye. Neomycin, polymyxin B, and dexamethasone ophthalmic is a combination medication, containing a corticosteroid and antibiotics. It works by reducing swelling and stopping the growth of bacteria in the eye.

Some common side effects of Maxitrol Eye may include:

• Eye irritation;

• Blurred vision;

• Eyelid itching;

• Eyelid swelling; or

• Sensitivity to light

You should not take Maxitrol Eye if you are allergic to Neomycin, polymyxin B, and dexamethasone ophthalmic or if you have a viral or fungal infection in your eye. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history, and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. Avoid touching the medication tip to the surface of the eye. Wait at least 15 minutes after administering the medication before putting in contact lenses. It is not known whether or not this medication can harm an unborn or nursing infant. Do not use this medication if you are pregnant or nursing without first consulting your doctor.
