What is Miebo Used for?

Miebo is a prescription medicine used to relieve symptoms of dry eye disease (DED). Dry eye occurs when tears aren't able to provide adequate moisture. Symptoms of dry eyes include redness, inflammation, discomfort, and sensitivity to light. The active ingredient in Miebo eye drops is Perfluorohexyloctane. Perfluorohexyloctane belongs to a class of drugs called ophthalmic anti-inflammatory agents. It works by keeping your tears from drying up by preventing excessive tear evaporation. The medication keeps the eye moist, protecting it from injury and infection. It also decreases symptoms of dry eyes, such as burning, itching, and feeling like something is in the eye.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Miebo?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Temporary blurred vision;
• Temporary eye redness

Stop using Miebo and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list of the adverse effects of Miebo. Kindly reach out to your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or get worse.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Miebo?

Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Miebo or have other problems when using Miebo. It is crucial to continue using this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Miebo comes as an eye drop. The drug is for use in the eyes only. Wash your hands and remove the cap of the bottle before using the drug. Avoid touching the tip of the bottle to any surface or your eyes to prevent contamination and infection in your eyes. Hold the Miebo bottle upright and gently squeeze it. Then, turn it upside down and release. Place the bottle above your eye and squeeze it again to release one drop into your eye. Repeat for your other eye. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using Miebo. You can put them back in after waiting at least 30 minutes after using the drops. Your doctor may instruct you to instill one drop of Miebo into each eye four times daily. Miebo can cause blurred vision. Avoid driving until your vision becomes clear again.

You should not use Miebo and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Contact lenses;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Eye diseases such as cataracts or glaucoma;
• Heart diseases such as hypertension;
• Liver disease

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known if Miebo will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding. It is unknown if Perfluorohexyloctane is excreted into breast milk, or if it may affect your nursing infant. Miebo is not safe for use in children below 18 years of age.
Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Miebo and other medications, such as:
• Other eye drops
