    What is Mydfrin used for?

    Mydfrin (Phenylephrine Hydrochloride) is a decongestant used to relieve eye redness, dryness, burning, or irritation in the eye caused by wind, sun, and other irritants. It can also be used to dilate the pupil for conditions such as glaucoma, before surgery, and before an eye exam. Mydfrin works by constricting the blood vessels in the eye. It should not be used for those who have narrow-angle glaucoma.

    The common side effects of Mydfrin include: headache, though no symptoms at all is the most common. The serious side effects may include:

    • Signs of allergic reaction
    o Hives
    o Difficulty breathing
    o Swelling of your face, lips, or tongue
    • Fast or irregular heartbeats
    • Sweating
    • Tremors
    • Pale skin
    • Lightheadedness
    • Severe headache
    • Buzzing in your ears
    • Anxiety
    • Shortness of breath
    • Chest pain or pressure
    • Pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder

    Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Mydfrin?

    You should not take Mydfrin if you are allergic to it, or if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, an eye infection, eye injury, or if you recently had eye surgery. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history, and about all the medications you take, including OTC and herbal medications. Ask your doctor if it is safe for you to use Mydfrin if you have: high blood pressure, a heart condition, coronary artery disease, asthma, or sulfite allergy. Do not use Mydfrin while wearing contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes before putting in contacts after using this medication. It isn’t known how Mydfrin might affect an unborn or nursing infant. Do not use this medication when you are pregnant or nursing without getting your doctor’s advice. This medication should not be given to a child without explicit instructions from a doctor.

    Mydfrin Storage and Safety Information

    Mydfrin is stored at room temperature and below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). It should be stored away from heat, moisture and light. Keep the bottle capped tightly and closed when not in use. Tell your doctor if you don’t see improvement in your symptoms after 3 days of treatment. Long-term use may damage the blood vessels in the eyes. Mydfrin should be kept away from children and pets.
