Ocufen Eye Drops (Flurbiprofen) is a prescription ophthalmic eye drops used to keep eye pupils from getting smaller (narrowing) during cataract surgery. The purpose of the Ocufen eye drop is to allow the doctor to examine the eyes with a wide view. Flurbiprofen also reduces pain after cataract surgery. The active ingredient in Ocufen eye drops is Flurbiprofen. Flurbiprofen belongs to the class of medicine called the topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by inhibiting the Cyclo-oxygenase-1 (COX-1) and COX-2, which result in decreased formation of prostaglandins with a resultant decrease in inflammatory mediators, thereby relieving eye pain.
