The active ingredient in Oxistat cream is Oxiconazole Nitrate. Oxiconazole belongs to the class of medication called azole antifungal. It works by preventing the growth of fungus.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Oxistat?

Before using oxiconazole, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other azole antifungals such as clotrimazole, ketoconazole, or miconazole; or if you have any other allergies. Oxistat is a cream and should be applied on the skin only. Use the medication according to your prescription label. Clean and thoroughly dry the area to be treated before applying the cream. Rub a small amount of the cream on the affected skin, usually once or twice a day or as directed by your doctor. Oxistat is for external use only, do not apply this medication in the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. Use the cream for the duration it was prescribed. Stopping your medication without your doctor’s approval may cause the fungus to continue to grow and worsen your infection. Contact your doctor if there is no significant improvement in your condition after 2-4 weeks of treatment or gets worse.

You should not take Oxistat and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• Open wound;
• Severe skin infections

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding a baby. Antifungal creams such as Oxistat should be used only if needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Oxiconazole Nitrate passes into breast milk, and it should not be applied on the chest or where the baby can come in contact with it. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements to prevent drug interactions, which might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Oxistat and other drugs such as:
• Other antifungals such as levoketoconazole cream or lotion
