What is Prevacid used for?

Prevacid (Lansoprazole) is a prescription medication that is used to treat stomach and esophagus problems such as acid reflux, ulcers and GERD. Lansoprazole belongs to the family of medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by blocking the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid hence decreasing the amount of acid produced by your stomach. This allows the stomach and esophagus to heal. This medication may also be used to treat conditions associated with the over-production of stomach acid including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prevacid is available in a delayed release capsule and a Solutab that disintegrates in your mouth.
