What is Rescriptor Used for?

Rescriptor (Delavirdine) is a prescription medicine used to treat people with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in combination with at least two other active antiretroviral medications. The active ingredient in Rescriptor is Delavirdine. Delavirdine belongs to the class of medication called Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NNRTIs). HIV destroys the immune system and prevents the body from fighting the infection. Reverse transcriptase is a part of HIV required to infect cells and make more viruses. Delavirdine prevents reverse transcriptase from working properly; thereby reducing the virus that HIV can produce. Rescriptor does not cure the virus; however, it reduces the viral load and prevents possible complications associated with the virus.
