Before taking Zidovudine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. You should know that the Zidovudine capsule is not a cure for HIV infection. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condom) during sexual activity as directed by your doctor. Do not share personal items (needles, syringes, and razors) that may have contacted blood or other body fluids.

It would be best to take the Zidovudine capsule precisely as directed by your doctor. You can take Zidovudine either with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with a drink of water. You should let your doctor know if you are a diabetic patient. You may develop lactic acidosis, a dangerous build-up of lactic acid in your blood. Get emergency medical help if you have unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, irregular heartbeats, dizziness, vomiting, or if you feel cold, tired, or very weak. It would be best to continue to use your medication for as long as your doctor or pharmacist prescribed it.

You should not take Retrovir and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• A history of agranulocytosis;
• A history of neutropenia (low white blood cells count);
• Any other medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus;
• Chronic alcohol consumption;
• kidney problems;
• Liver problems such as hepatitis B and C or liver cirrhosis

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant when using Zidovudine. After the birth, your baby may be given Retrovir to help prevent it from getting infected with HIV. This medication passes into breast milk. Because breast milk can transmit HIV, do not breastfeed.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' action. There may be a drug interaction between Retrovir and other drugs such as:
• Ganciclovir;
• Ribavirin, antibiotics such as rifampicin;
• Stavudine;
• Stribild (elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir DF);
