What is Vetmedin used for?

Vetmedin (Pimobendan) is a veterinary medication used to treat and manage congestive heart failure in dogs, most commonly caused by myxomatous mitral valve disease or dilated cardiomyopathy. Vetmedin helps increase lifespan and improve the quality of life in canine patients. Vetmedin is not for human use. Vetmedin works by sensitizing calcium ions in the heart, which increases the consumption of oxygen and energy in the heart. It also decreases resistance to blood flow through the heart, which reduces strain on the heart. Vetmedin is typically administered orally at a daily dose determined by their body weight. The dose should be taken in two parts, 12 hours apart.
