Vraylar belongs to a class of medications called antipsychotics, and works by targeting certain receptors in the brain that are responsible for regulating levels of certain neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin. Through its actions on these receptors, Vraylar can increase and decrease the levels of these neurotransmitters as needed in order to improve thinking, mood, and behaviour. Vraylar is not approved for use in treatment in older adults with dementia-related psychosis. Take Vraylar exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. You may take Vraylar with or without food. It may take several weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.
