What is Zepbound Used for?

Zepbound (Tirzepatide Injection) is a prescription medication used for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI of 30 or higher) or overweight (BMI of 27 or higher) with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. It is also used to treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults with obesity, significantly reducing the number of breathing interruptions during sleep. The active ingredient in Zepbound is Tirzepatide Injection. Tirzepatide Injection belongs to a class of drugs called GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists. It works by mimicking gut hormones to reduce appetite, increase feelings of fullness, and slow digestion.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Zepbound?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Diarrhea or constipation;
• Fatigue or low energy;
• Hair loss;
• Injection site reactions (redness, itching, or bruising);
• Nausea and vomiting;
• Stomach pain and indigestion.

Stop using Zepbound and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, such as:

• New or worsening depression or suicidal thoughts;
• Severe stomach pain that may travel to your back (potential pancreatitis);

• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, breathing difficulties, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

This is not a complete list of Zepbound's adverse effects. Kindly contact your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above side effects persist or worsen.

Are there any precautions or drug interactions for Zepbound?

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Zepbound or have other problems when using Zepbound. It is crucial to continue using this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes. Zepbound is available as an injection. Inject Zepbound subcutaneously (under the skin) once weekly into the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites with each dose.

You should not use Zepbound and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC);
• Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2);
• Severe gastrointestinal disease or gastroparesis

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if Tirzepatide Injection will harm an unborn baby. The safety and effectiveness of this medicine in pregnancy have not been established. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Tirzepatide passes into breast milk or what its effects on a nursing infant are. Your doctor will decide whether you should discontinue nursing or the drug. The safety and effectiveness of Zepbound in children under 18 years of age have not been established.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. Zepbound may make oral birth control pills less effective. The drug may also interact with insulin or sulfonylureas. Because Zepbound slows stomach emptying, it may affect the absorption of other oral medicines.

Zepbound Storage and Safety Information

Store Zepbound in the refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C (36°F to 46°F) in its original carton to protect it from light. Do not freeze. Always keep Zepbound and all medicines out of reach of children.
