For anyone who has faced erectile dysfunction, it is clear to see that the condition has a dramatic effect on not just the man who experiences it, but also his romantic partner. They may seem unrelated, but marriage and the impotence experienced by a man with erectile dysfunction may actually have a considerable effect on each other. Can marriage survive impotence? The going may be tough, but with a new generic prescription available, the horizon finally looks promising.

One of the most prescribed erectile dysfunction medications out there, Levitra, is now available in generic form thanks to a patent that expired in October 2018. A new generic Levitra is available to our customers from Jamp Pharma Canada. Jamp-vardenafil is the first time a generic version of Levitra is coming from Canada, and it is known as Jamp-vardenafil because it is manufactured by Jamp Pharma, out of Canada. The starting dose is 5 milligrams, while the most popular dose is 20 milligrams. It is available with 4 tablets per strip pack and has the appearance of small yellow pills.

In addition to Cialis and Viagra, Levitra is one of the top erectile dysfunction medications on the market. As a vasodilator, which widens blood vessels, it is commonly used by men who are struggling with erectile dysfunction, or ED for short. Erectile dysfunction is the name of the condition that occurs when a man is unable to acquire or maintain an erection that is firm enough to sustain sexual intercourse. ED can be caused by either physical or psychological factors, and typically leads to stress, puts a strain on the man’s intimate relationships, and often leads to low self-confidence levels.

Levitra works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5). It was introduced to the drug market in the year 2003, around the same time as Viagra and Cialis. Inhibiting PDE5 helps to enhance blood flow to the penis while it is sexually stimulated because PDE5 is the enzyme that is normally responsible for regulating--or limiting--that blood flow.

If you have questions about drug safety, not to worry; we’re happy to answer any questions about generic Levitra that you may have. While generic Levitra has been approved by the FDA for some time, generic alternatives could not become available until the patent expired on October 31, 2018. At that time, manufacturers received the right to produce their own versions of vardenafil (generic Levitra), which can be given new brand names or simply sold under the name of the active ingredient, vardenafil.

Typically, when a patent expires, prices for the drug drop dramatically across the board. This is what occurred when Pfizer lost its patent on Viagra in 2013 and generic sildenafil was introduced to the market, and what occurred for similar situations with many other prescription medications.

Erectile dysfunction: it’s not just for older men

Believe it or not, even young and virile men may fall victim to erectile dysfunction at one point or another. Though it is often regarded as a condition that primarily affects older or middle aged men, young men may experience it, too. This trend is only on the rise.

According to Medical News Today, “While erectile problems are widely thought to be an older man’s issue, ED can affect younger men as well. It can be both frustrating and embarrassing for a man to admit to having ED. Few young men, especially those under the age of 40, want to acknowledge that they may have it. Although ED is not as common in young men, it can affect about 25 percent of men under the age of 40. However, only about 5 percent of all men under 40 have complete ED.”

Causes of ED in young men can include performance anxiety, psychological disorders such as depression or schizophrenia, abnormalities of the penis, and of course, various diseases and injuries. In addition, some medications--especially anti depression medications--can lead to periods of erectile dysfunction. Other factors, which the young men have more control over, can also lead to ED: think obesity, a poor diet, smoking, a lack of exercise, relationship stressors, and even excessive alcohol intake.

    Genetic risks of erectile dysfunction

In an interesting twist of fate, during the same month that the patent on generic Levitra expired -- October 2018 -- the scientific community saw the release of a study that identified the first genetic risk factor for erectile dysfunction.

According to Science Daily, “For the first time, a team of researchers has found a specific place in the human genome that raises a person’s risk of erectile dysfunction. The discovery is a significant advancement in the understanding of the genetics underlying erectile dysfunction. … The new study found that variations in a specific place in the genome -- called a genetic locus -- near the SIM1 gene are significantly associated with an increased risk of erectile dysfunction.

The researchers ruled out that the risk was due to other known risk factors for erectile dysfunction, such as body mass index, or differences in how men describe their erectile dysfunction. The study also demonstrated a biological role for the genetic location in regulating sexual function, strongly suggesting that these variations can cause erectile dysfunction.”

Ideally, these findings will lead researchers, doctors, and drug manufacturers to be able to better understand, treat, and even heal the condition of ED. As science advances and we better understand the precise mechanisms of how ED comes about, we can develop methods of prevention and treatment that truly work, helping improve the lives of the millions of men (and their partners) who have suffered through this disease in silence for far too long.

How can impotence harm a marriage?

It’s impossible to avoid: a man suffering from ED isn’t the only one suffering. His wife or sexual partner is feeling the pain of the condition, too. While it may seem like a lonely and isolating condition for the man suffering from it, the truth is that his ED doesn’t just affect him: it affects his most intimate relationship, too. Impotence is simply a more official word for a man’s inability to achieve an erection or reach sexual climax, and it has a larger effect on millions of lives behind closed doors than some realize.

Impotence can cast a major shadow over a once healthy and thriving relationship or marriage. A man’s ED can have major mental and emotional repercussions on his partner, as well. Women whose partners are unable to acquire or sustain sexual arousal while in bed with them attempting to enjoy a romantic rendezvous will no doubt be hit with waves of self consciousness.

It may be difficult, but it’s essential that the man’s partner keeps in mind that she is not the cause of his ED, and it has nothing to do with her beauty or sexual ability. She may be perfectly capable of pleasing him; the issue lies with a medical condition he is facing, not anything to do with her. Women with strong self esteem can be of help to their partner who is suffering from this condition, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to keep her spirits up.

In an article called “ED and the Sexless Relationship,” explains the issue well:

“Take, for example, a woman in her fifties whose partner has erectile dysfunction (ED). Though this obviously affects their sex life, it can also carry over into the rest of their relationship. In many cases involving women and ED, the man is ashamed to talk about it or go for help and instead pulls away from his partner. She, in turn, feels rejected and the relationship suffers. As uncomfortable as it may be, it’s important to discuss ED and get help for both the success of the relationship and the good health of the man. … Women and ED can be complicated as well. Though many women are understanding, they can also feel disappointed or even frustrated physically and miss the intimacy emotionally … ‘Women may feel responsible and guilty, concerned that they are doing something wrong or that their partner no longer finds them sexy … Some women fear ED is a sign their partner is having sex with someone else. It’s not.’”

Sex not only fosters intimacy and connection between two committed partners, it also relieves stress through the release of a feel-good hormone called oxytocin -- and it can even release endorphins if it’s a good workout! That’s what makes it so important, especially for two people in a committed marriage relationship. Going without sex, whether due to ED or otherwise, will without a doubt have a damaging effect on the marriage relationship.

That’s why it’s essential that the man seeks help -- all the better if he has his spouse by his side to provide support and compassion every step of the way. Marriage can indeed survive impotence, as long as the couple keeps the lines of communication open and tackles the issue together, as a team putting forth a united front.

Physical therapy to alleviate ED symptoms

Are there other ways to treat ED, or activities that a man can do to coincide with his prescription medication treatment regimen? Yes! The good news is that men can complete physical therapy exercises that may help with the symptoms of ED. While it may not replace medication in some cases, it can certainly provide a boost to a man’s journey to overcome ED.

Men’s Health states, “You might think the problem is squarely on something intrinsically wrong with your penis — so you might be surprised to learn that your struggles might be due to an underdeveloped set of pelvic floor muscles. … Specifically, targeted PT can help a man strengthen and engage his ischiocavernosus muscle, which is responsible for building and keeping penile rigidity. That engagement can be honed through exercises like kegels, which have grown more common among women but are woefully underperformed by men.

Just like any other muscle, the pelvic floor muscles can be addressed with rehabilitation. A proper strengthening routine can target weakness — specifically, trigger points can be released where there is increased tension, restoring the correct length-tension relationship and creating more complete and stronger muscle contractions.”

So, while you may also continue with your generic Levitra to address ED, it couldn’t hurt to add some helpful exercises into your routine. They will only help to work with your medication to help you reach your ED treatment goals. Talk to your doctor about the right combination of exercises and medications like generic Levitra to figure out the best course of treatment for your particular individual case of ED.

How is Levitra different from other ED medications?

Levitra is the longer lasting of the most popular of the erectile dysfunction medication options, save for Cialis, which can last for up to 36 hours. (This is why Cialis is often referred to as the weekend pill.) Viagra typically lasts for up to 4 hours, while Levitra is known to last 4 to 5 hours. Many men prefer to take Levitra since it is the longer lasting of the options between Levitra and Viagra.

Don’t worry: taking an ED medication like Levitra does not mean you’ll have a continuous erection for the entire time the medication is working! Instead, taking an ED drug simply means that an erection can more easily develop when arousal hits during the time that the drug is effective. Since both Levitra and Cialis work over a longer period of time than Viagra does, they can help the man retain a level of spontaneity in his romantic relationship.

If you’re worried about using a generic version of Levitra when you’re used to the branded version, don’t be. They are exactly the same, as is required by law. Generic medications have to contain the same active ingredient--and have the same effect--as their name brand counterparts. While the name, exterior appearance, and features of the tablets and their packaging can differ, the drug must be medically identical to the branded version in order to receive approval to hit the shelves as an approved generic medication. This includes Levitra.

Especially when there’s a significant difference in price, there’s no reason not to opt for the generic version of a trusted name-brand medication if one is available to you. If you’re paying out of pocket for your erectile dysfunction medication, why not save some change by opting to go for a generic version that works just as well?
