What Is Duavee Used For?

Duavee is a prescription medication that contains a mixture of estrogens and bazedoxifene. It is used after menopause in women with a uterus to reduce the moderate to severe hot flashes. Estrogens are hormones produced by a woman's ovaries. When her menstrual periods stop (menopause), around the age of 45-50, the ovaries stop producing estrogens. Sometimes ovaries are removed by an operation and it is known as surgical menopause. The drop in estrogen levels causes uncomfortable symptoms in women such as the feeling of warmth in face, neck, and chest or a sudden intense episode of heat and sweating (known as hot flashes). These hot flashes can further lead to frequent awakening at night, irritability, sleep disturbance and depression. Duavee is also used to help reduce your chances of developing osteoporosis (thin, weak and brittle bones). In case you use Duavee, only to prevent osteoporosis due to menopause, talk to your healthcare professional whether a different medication or treatment without estrogens may be better for you. This medication should be taken for the shortest period of time possible and only for as long as the treatment is needed. The safety and efficacy of Duavee are not known in patients with kidney problems.
