What is Entresto used for?


Entresto (Sacubitril and Valsartan) is combination medication that is used in patients with chronic heart failure to lower the risk of hospitalization when symptoms get worse and to lower the risk of death from heart failure. Sacubitril is a blood pressure medication that lowers blood pressure by reducing sodium levels. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker which keeps the blood vessels from narrowing, hence lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow. Entresto is usually taken with or without food usually twice daily or as directed by the doctor.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Entresto?


The common side effects may include cough, dizziness, lightheadedness. The serious side effects may include:

• Fainting;
• Signs of kidney problems;
• Slow or irregular heartbeat;
• Symptoms of a high potassium blood level

Are there any Precautions or Drug Interactions for Entresto?


You should not take Entresto if you are allergic to Sacubitril or Valsartan or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. This medication may make you dizzy. You should not drive or do any activity that requires you to be alert. You should limit alcoholic beverages. Entresto should not be used during pregnancy because it may harm an unborn baby. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding baby. There may be an interaction between Entresto and other medication such as ACEinhibitors, Bromperidol, Amifostine, Obinutuzumab, aliskiren, lithium, benazepril/Lisinopril, birth control pills etc.

Entresto tablet should be stored at temperature of 25 degrees with excursions between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) away from moisture.
