What is Yaz used for?


Yaz is a combination birth control pill and used to prevent pregnancy. Yaz may also be used to treat moderate acne in women over the age of 14, as well as treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Stop taking the Yaz if you have any signs of allergic reaction, which includes:
• Skin rash or hives;

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions of Yaz?


You should not use the Yaz if you’re allergic to drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol or if you:
• Are pregnant or recently had a baby;
• Have an adrenal gland disorder;
• Have kidney disease;

• Have heart disease;
• Have increased risk of developing blood clots due to heart condition, or hereditary blood disorder;

• Have a history of hormone-related cancer (breast, uterus, cervix, vaginal);
• Have unusual vaginal bleeding that hasn’t been checked by a doctor;
• Have liver disease or liver cancer;
• Have severe migraine headaches (especially if over 35);
• Have a history of jaundice caused by pregnancy or birth control pills;
• Smoke and are over 35 years old;
• Have cancer of the breast, uterus/cervix, or vagina;
• Take any hepatitis C medicines containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir

Be sure to talk to your doctor to determine if Yaz is safe for you, particularly if you have or have had the following:
• Heart problems;
• High blood pressure;
• Prone to developing blood clots;
• High potassium levels in your blood;
• High cholesterol or triglycerides, or if you’re overweight;
• Depression;
• Liver or kidney disease;
• Underactive thyroid;
• Diabetes;
• Gallbladder disease;
• Migraine headaches

Yaz Storage and Safety Information


Store Yaz at room temperature away from extreme heat, light, and moisture.

Taking this medication can increase your risk of blood clots, heart attack, and stroke. Smoking greatly increases those chances. Do not take Yaz if you smoke and are over 35 years old.

Yaz can be detected in breastmilk and may also slow down milk production of a nursing mother. Do not take Yaz if you are nursing an infant.

Do not take more than the prescribed dose. If you miss a pill, throw it away and keep taking your one reminder pill daily.

Seek emergency help or call Poison Control at 1-800-463-5060 immediately if you suspect an overdose. Overdose symptoms include nausea and vaginal bleeding.

This medication will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. Use a condom to protect yourself from HIV, AIDs, and other sexually transmitted diseases.
