    Caverject (Alprostadil) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of ED (erectile dysfunction). Alprostadil belongs to a class of medications known as prostaglandins. It works by helping blood flow into the penis so you can achieve and maintain an erection. The goal is to achieve and erection that lasts up to one hour.

    What are the Possible Side Effects of Caverject?


    The common side effects may include irritation, mild to moderate genital pain and slight bleeding at the injection site. The serious side effects may include:

    • Abnormal ejaculation;

    • Bleeding from the tip of the penis;

    • Bloody urine or change in the amount of urine;

    • Discoloration of the penis;

    • Painful or prolonged erection;

    • Severe or persistent pain;

    • Unusual curving of the penis;

    • White patches or discharges from the penis

    Are there any Precautions or Drug Interactions for Caverject?


    You should not use Caverject if you are allergic to Alprostadil or if you have any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication does not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea or syphilis. You should always use a condom to decrease the risk of infection. There may be an interaction between Caverject and other medications such as warfarin and heparin.

    Caverject Safety and Storage Information


    Caverject should be stored at a temperature of 25 degress C or 77 degrees F before mixing. After mixing, you may store Caverject below 77 degrees F or 25 degrees C for up to 24 hours. Do not refrigerate or freeze this medication. It should be stored away from heat, light and moisture and away from children and pets. Do not store Caverject in the bathroom.
