What is Skelid Used for?

Skelid (Tiludronate) is a prescription medication used to treat bone diseases such as Paget disease. Paget's disease is a bone disease in which bone resorption and formation happen too quickly, resulting in the formation of new bone that is weaker than expected. The affected bone may become enlarged and can be painful. The active ingredient in Skelid is Tiludronate. Tiludronate belongs to the group of medications called Calcium Metabolism Modifiers, Bisphosphonate Derivatives. It works by preventing bone breakdown and increasing bone density (thickness).

What are the Possible Side Effects of Skelid?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Chest pain;
• Diarrhea;

This is not a complete list of the adverse effect of Skelid. Kindly contact your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or worsen.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Skelid?

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Tiludronate, other medications, or any ingredients in tiludronate tablets. Skelid is a tablet that should be taken orally with a cup of water. Taking the Skelid tablet on an empty stomach once a day for three at least months is recommended. The duration of your treatment may be repeated if your symptoms come back or worsen after completing your first treatment. Take your tablet around the same time every day. Discuss with your doctor or pharmacist if there is something you do not understand about your medication. Do not take it often or for a more extended period than your doctor prescribes. Contact your doctor if you experience pain, weakness, or discomfort in your thigh, hip, or groin, as this may be an early indication of a possible fracture of the thigh bone. Do not stop taking Tiludronate without talking to your doctor.

You should not take Skelid and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Bone cancer;
• Dental problems (including toothache and tooth extraction);
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection)

Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Skelid should be used with caution, provided the benefits outweigh the risk during pregnancy. It is unknown if Tiludronate passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding your baby. Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. Skelid has no known drug interaction. However, you should avoid using multiple medications with Skelid without contacting your doctor.
